Chamber and Association Partnership Programme

Chamber and Association Partnerships (KVP) have been an effective development program of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) since the 1990s. The goal is to combat poverty by promoting sustainable economic development in partner countries. The BMZ aims to mobilize the expertise and know-how of the German economy for development cooperation through these programs, enabling direct cooperation with non-governmental organizations, and embracing initiatives from the private sector.

Project partner: Bioenergy Association of Ukraine (UABIO)

The mutual collaboration between the German and Ukrainian associations aims at strengthening the biogas sector in Ukraine and thereby enhancing the development of renewable energies. sequa gGmbH in Bonn is responsible for coordinating this program for BMZ.

The project seeks to support companies in the biogas sector in Ukraine to contribute to sustainable environmental and climate protection. The primary objective is to develop the Bioenergy Association of Ukraine (UABIO) into a self-sustaining organization that supports and represents its members to society, authorities, and the business sector. To achieve these goals, the German Biogas Association supports UABIO through the enhancement of association management, the strengthening of organizational structures, the development of membership services, and the promotion of advocacy as well as network building.

Project partner: Serbian Biogas Association (SBA)

The mutual goal of the project between the German Biogas Association and the Serbian Biogas Association is to support the growth of SMEs in the biogas sector in Serbia, as well as to promote the utilization of the technology and thereby contribute to the expansion of renewable energies.

The production of biogas in Serbia holds a sustainable perspective, especially considering that through biogas generation, Serbia moves closer to the environmental standards of the European Union. This approach also increases income generation at the municipal level and ensures energy independence for the country.

Project partner: Uganda National Biogas Alliance (UNBA)

The project with the Ugandan Biogas Association UNBA started in December 2020 with a duration of three years. Due to its location and climatic conditions, Uganda offers very good conditions for the operation of biogas plants. The common goal was to build a strong and active biogas umbrella association, which promotes the use of the technology in Uganda in a sustainable and efficient way and represents the sector on a national and international level.

Project partner: Serbian Biogas Association (SBA)


A pre-project (short version of a KVP project) between GBA and SBA started in May 2019 and was extended twice. The project led to a significant increase in public awareness in the sector, the population and especially the responsible ministries. Know-how transfer as well as further network expansion were also main parts of the cooperation between the two associations.

Project partner: Indian Biogas Association (IBA)

The partnership project between GBA and IBA started in December 2015. The aim of the project was to further improve the framework conditions for the use of biogas in India and to establish a member-based association structure.
