German Biogas Association and the Bioenergy Association of Ukraine launch partnership project to promote sustainable biogas technology

The German Biogas Association (GBA) is pleased to announce a new Chamber and Association Partnership project (KVP) with the Bioenergy Association of Ukraine (UABIO). The project, which commenced on December and has a duration of three years, aims to promote the development and implementation of sustainable biogas technologies in Ukraine, opening new perspectives for German biogas companies.

The collaboration between GBA and UABIO is a significant step towards strengthening bilateral cooperation in the field of renewable energy. The project will focus on identifying potentials, exchanging knowledge, and promoting technological innovation to sustainably shape the biogas industry in Ukraine.
The common goal of this initially three-year project is to further develop the Ukrainian association. As an established self-sustaining organization, it is intended to actively support and represent its members towards society, authorities, and the economy, thereby promoting the production and use of biogas in the country. The partnership is financed by the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ).

Ukraine has one of the largest agricultural land areas in Europe, hence an immense raw material potential for biogas and biomethane production. Within the German-Ukrainian energy partnership, the two countries are already closely collaborating in the field of energy transition. Focus areas include increasing energy efficiency, modernizing the power sector, expanding renewable energy, and reducing CO2 emissions.
In its energy strategy, the Ukrainian government outlines the creation of an innovative and decentralized energy system by 2050. Strengthening the biogas sector supports Ukraine in its energy transition and contributes to decentralized energy supply, especially in rural areas with limited access to the power grid.

Dr. Claudius da Costa Gomez, CEO of the German Biogas Association, is happy about this new collaboration: “This project underscores the importance of international partnerships for promoting sustainable energies. We are confident that the expertise of GBA, combined with the dedicated team of UABIO, will contribute to the sustainable advancement of the biogas industry in Ukraine."
The KVP project between the Biogas Association and the Ukrainian Biogas Association UABIO is already the 4th of its kind for GBA and a significant milestone towards an environmentally friendly energy future. Both associations look forward to making a positive contribution to the sustainable development of the biogas industry in Ukraine through this collaboration.

The new association partnership with Ukraine also promotes export opportunities for German companies in the Ukrainian market.
