German Biogas Association expands its portfolio - Chamber and Association Partnership Project now also in Uganda
Freising (Germany).The partnership between the German and Ugandan biogas associations will start at the beginning of this month. Both sides speak of great energy potential and expect new perspectives for German biogas companies.
The Chamber and Association Partnership between the German Biogas Association (GBA) and the Uganda National Biogas Alliance (UNBA) starts today on 1 December 2020. The aim of this project, initially limited to three years, is to promote the production and use of biogas in the East African country. The partnership is financed by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) and managed by sequa gGmbH.
Despite great efforts and very good potential, the biogas sector in Uganda is currently not yet in the situation to adequately promote the production and use of biogas. As a technology, biogas offers a wide range of solutions from which especially developing and emerging countries can benefit. In addition to the production of energy (electricity, gas, heat/cooling), it also includes possibilities for waste treatment and the production of high-quality fertilizer. Uganda offers very good conditions for the operation of biogas plants due to its location, climatic conditions, and a strong agricultural sector. Currently, there are just over 7,000 small domestic plants and a very few larger plants. On the other hand, there is a large amount of organic waste, residues, and agricultural by-production.
Dr. Claudius da Costa Gomez, Managing Director of the German Biogas Association (GBA), is happy about the new project: "Due to our very positive experiences in projects in India and Serbia, we see ourselves as the ideal partner. Our common goal is to build a strong and active biogas umbrella association together with our partners at UNBA, which promotes the use of the technology in Uganda in a sustainable and efficient way and represents the sector on a national and international level”.
UNBA’s managing board currently consisting of seven members hopes to become with the help of German know-how “A leading driver for a commercially viable biogas sector in Uganda and beyond”.
For German biogas companies, the partnership project will open up new opportunities to become active in the country with modern and reliable technology. Biogas "Made in Germany" continues to enjoy a very high reputation worldwide.
